The Santa and Mrs Claus cushions are a Foundation Paper Pieced project. The centrally pieced sections have borders added to them to create the cushion fronts.
Once finished, your Santa and Mrs Claus cushions will measure approximately 14″ square. The central FPP sections are 10″ finished and of course can be used in other patchwork projects.
The PAPER pattern features:
:: 12 page full colour booklet
:: Fabric requirements (see final picture for details)
:: Colouring diagrams
:: Diagrams for joining the FPP sections
:: Full sized, labelled and coloured FPP pattern pieces*
:: Instructions for making and applying piping
:: Instructions for making an envelope back
*pattern pieces will need to be copied onto thinner paper for Foundation Paper Piecing
When it comes to the paper piecing element of the project, I would recommend this pattern to a confident beginner. There are a couple of small pieces and there are a few seams to match when joining sections, but if you take your time, it is achievable.
This pattern assumes that you already know how to paper piece so there are no FPP technique tips included with the instructions (see below for links to tutorials).
If you are feeling confident or adventurous you can add additional detail to the cushions using free motion or straight line quilting (as I have done in the samples shown here). Instructions have not been included for this optional embellishment.
If you are new to Foundation Paper Piecing I have a number of free tutorials and demonstrations

The Striped Easter Egg FPP pattern makes a fun 8″ Easter themed block. The pattern allows you to use lots of beautiful fabrics.
It would look super as a mini wall hanging or could be included in a larger quilt. Add a few extra sashing strips and it turns into the front of a cushion!
The Facets of the Heart FPP pattern makes a beautiful, slightly rounded heart. Make it up in a whole rainbow of colours or make one up in one solid colour to make a bold statement. You could even try out several tones of the same colour.
Just imagine how stunning it would look as a wall hanging or incorporated into a quilt. It would also look great on a cushion or pillow cover.
