Sewing Quarter Story :: an English Paper Piecing project

I am loving being part of the Sewing Quarter family. Have you managed to catch any shows yet? Just this week the legendary Kaffe Fassett was on the show chatting with Natasha and Anna Maria Horner was on talking with John Scott.

Each and every project that I do involves using new and interesting fabrics. Each and every project produces scraps however if you are anything like me you’ll understand that it’s hard to just bin all those little bits of fabric.

I decided that it might be nice to document my time on the Sewing Quarter and what better way of using up scraps than by making hexies!! My Sewing Quarter Story has begun.

Rainbow of Hexies for my Sewing Quarter Story

English Paper Piecing is such a lovely craft. The hexies come together satisfyingly fast and it feels good to be making use of fabrics that are either destined for the bin or a lifelong spell in the bottom of the scraps stash.

The best thing about English Paper Piecing is that it’s a totally portable project. These hexies were all made whilst on holiday in Spain even though we went with hand luggage only!

If you have been following me on Instagram you’ll have seen that I’ve made a start on making my Sewing Quarter Story hexies. I’m using #sewingquarterstory if you’d like to follow along.

I’ve made it through most of my Sewing Quarter scraps and have made 52 hexies. There are a few more scraps to work through so I shall keep you posted.

I’m not sure where this little project will take me, but let’s see what starts to take shape.

I’m back on the Sewing Quarter again once the children are back at school in September, but for the mean time I am child wrangling and sewing as and when I can!

Sewing Quarter VT

Last week I filmed a new VT for the Sewing Quarter. Talking like this to camera, or more precisely to Bex standing next to the camera (which is ever so close) is not something that comes naturally. I’m not embarrassed to say that it took more than one take (but thankfully not as many takes as some, not mentioning any names!).

I cringe every time I watch it, but here it is nonetheless!

The Sewing Quarter :: Guest Designer Status

I have some fabulous news to share with you! I have been asked to be a ‘Guest Designer’ on the Sewing Quarter, the UK’s newest LIVE TV channel dedicated to sewing and quilting.

Sewing Quarter

It has been a crazy week….a screen test, making and prepping four projects, a couple of 5am alarm calls, four live shows, lots of layers of makeup and several trips down the motorway!

What a blast!

Here are my very first two shows*. In the second hour of the show I made an techy travel wrap and in the final hour of the show I made a over-ear headphone case.

On my second morning I made a lined beach tote bag and I used a brand new product called OdiCoat. It’s a fabric coating gel that turns your favourite print into a water resistant fabric….amazing!

I demo the Tote Bag in the second hour of the show and the OdiCoat and some little wash bags in the final hour of the show.

The Sewing Quarter is on LIVE every day between 9am and 12noon. It’s on freeview channel 78 and on their website. All of the episodes are also uploaded to YouTube so you can re-watch to catch details on all of the projects and the products used.

I’ll be on again at the end of March….will keep you updated 🙂

* that’s not me in the still of the YouTube video…I’m the one with the long dark hair!
