Tops, Tanks and Tees Knit Along

I hope you all had a fabulous Easter weekend. We had  a family wedding on Good Friday followed by a large family get together for the rest of the weekend. I am so completely full of chocolate and food. I am in desperate need of some exercise other than running around after my children!

The other day I was reading the luvinthemommyhood blog and discovered that Shannon was running a Tops Tanks and Tees knit along in preparation for the forthcoming summer months.

This will be my first time in a large scale knit along and I’m not sure why but I’m a little bit nervous and really quite excited.  The knit along starts on Wednesday 11th of April (eek, that’s tomorrow) and runs for six weeks so if you would like to join in then you’d better get your yarn and pattern chosen!

This will be the first time I will have knitted a ‘proper’ garment for myself. In the past I have only really kntted or crocheted hats or scarves – so scared that it will not turn out right….

I have decided to knit the Roxborough Dolman by Courtney Kelley. I love the relaxed look but I am a little bit worried that it is not going to look quite as good on me as it does on the lovely slim model!! Hey ho, I shall give it a try regardless.

Now, yarn selection. I have splashed out and am using Ella Rae Lace Merino that I bought at my LYS. I figured that if I’m going to spend time doing something for myself then I should do it properly. It may look as though I have no imagination with regards to colours, but I really do love the colour combination that they have used in the pattern. I even have a top to prove it. Some time ago I bought a great top from M&S but it sadly came out of the washing machine with holes in it!!! So whilst this is a different garment I am looking for a replacement of sorts.

My LYS didn’t have a ball winding service so I have made a start on winding….perfect project for a long car journey (but only if you are a passenger, not the driver)!

To show my commitment to the knit along I have even made a swatch – for the first time ever no less! The tricky thing is that I am ‘correct’ on my row count, but a few too many stitches on my width count. I think therefore that I will knit the larger of the two sizes that I was trying to decide between…..or is that completely the wrong thing to do?

If you’re part of the knit along leave me a comment and I’ll drop by your blog to see how you are getting on.
