After what seems like too long, I have taken up reading books again. I have been a member of a book club for some time but to be brutally honest I was just in it for the wine and the catch up with friends! Not sure exactly what happened, but in May 2022 I picked up my daughter’s kindle and downloaded one of the books that had been recommended by a friend. I enjoyed it so very much and I now seem to be on a roll. I am devouring books like there is no tomorrow. This might be somewhat of an exaggeration, but compared to the past 10 years it’s a lot of reading!

These books are on my list of books to read. They are either recommendations or things I have fancied, but yet decided to read. This list is by no means exhaustive. When I went through my list I actually started to get worried that I’d never get through them all!

Evelyn Hugo led a very interesting and complicated life…all in the pursuit of love. I was so sad when I worked out her terrible secret!

You wouldn’t imagine that a story about elite tennis would be good, but it was a great read. A real page turner.

On my daughter’s GCSE reading list – don’t let that put you off. A truly wonderful book. Sad, uplifting, amusing.

What an emotional read! A fiction based on the real life experiences of those that experienced the war in Vietnam. Very moving. Highly recommend.

Daughter is studying Macbeth for GCSE so I figured I best gen up! This felt like as good a place to start as any (don’t judge me!). It’s part of a box set that we bought years ago.

All about a female scientist set in the 1960s. Looking at the challenges she faces as a scientist, an accidental TV presenter and a mum. Loved it!

A great mystery thriller that I got completely sucked into. A great read! I have also read Hunting Party and Guest List. All are good!

Amusing story about an old chap who falls foul in the pursuit of love and companionship

A thriller set around a gun siege in an English school. A great read that was hard to put down and made me cry in a couple of places!

A charming book with some really lovely moments. There are some great characters, each with their own unique story.

This was actually on the reading list given to my daughter. Looked interesting, so I’m giving it a go! Only just started and I’ve got a busy few weeks so will probably finish in August!

Great follow up thriller from Patricia Wolf, based in Queensland. A proper page turner that I enjoyed reading a lot!

I love this author so much. He writes so beautifully. A heart wrenching story about a boys’ correctional institution set in the 19060s

A beautifully written set of intertwined short stories about women in Britain with Afro-Caribbean heritage and who have a range of sexual and gender identities.

Another recommended read. A lovely story about the power of love and kindness. Set in South Carolina during the early Civil Rights period.

This book was recommended to me by a couple of people. The stories of two different women set in both eighteenth century London and the present day. A light read, but a page turner!

Good grief this is a horrific book. Not that it is terrible, but the plot is harrowing. The things (some) people do for love!

So far a great read about female friendships and how we change and grow as time passes.

Love that the story is told from the perspective of each of the main characters, almost like watching a documentary about the story of their lives. The book is better than the Amazon series (IMO)!

Fascinating and very moving read about the incredible journeys made by refugees.

Thrilling read that I couldn’t put down. I actually gasped at one point!

Such a great read and the Australian outback was described so perfectly. It made be homesick (although I never actually never lived in the outback!)

YA fiction, my 14yo daughter’s favourite book. I cried at one point. Ok, I cried at a couple of points!

Written from the point of view of the family dog. Amusing but heart wrenching at the same time!
