Nutcracker and Mouse King Cushions : FPP pdf pattern

The Nutcracker and Mouse King cushions are a Foundation Paper Pieced project. The centrally pieced sections have borders added to them to create the cushion fronts. Once finished, your Nutcracker and Mouse King cushions will measure approximately 14″ square. The central FPP sections are 10″ finished and of course can be used in other patchwork projects.

:: Pattern Pieces in two versions:

• Tiled FPP pattern pieces (6 pages). Pages designed in a way that allows them to be printed on either A4 or Letter paper. Some pages will need to be joined together to complete a couple of the larger pattern pieces
• Large Format pattern pieces on A2 paper (16.5″ x 23.4″), great if you prefer to have your patterns printed by a copy shop.

DIFFICULTY

When it comes to the paper piecing element of the project, I would recommend this pattern to a confident beginner. There are a couple of small pieces and there are a few seams to match when joining sections (helpful diagrams included), but if you take your time, it is achievable.

This pattern assumes that you already know how to paper piece so there are no FPP technique tips included with the instructions (see below for links to tutorials).

If you are feeling confident or adventurous you can add additional detail to the cushions using free motion or straight line quilting (as I have done in the samples shown here). Guidance has not been included for this optional embellishment.
