Three Wise Men FPP Cushions

The Three Wise Men cushions are Foundation Paper Pieced projects. The centrally pieced sections with the faces have borders added to them to create the cushion fronts.

Once finished, your Three Wise Men FPP cushions will measure approximately 14″ square. The central FPP blocks are 10″ finished and of course can be used in other patchwork projects.

DIFFICULTY

When it comes to the paper piecing element of the project, I would recommend this pattern to someone with intermediate FPP skills. Whilst there are not that many smaller pieces, there are a lot of sections to join together. Melchior (shown here with a white beard) is the simplest of each of the designs to make. When you are joining sections together refer back to the diagrams with the green circles.

This pattern assumes that you already know how to paper piece so there are no FPP technique tips included with the instructions.

If you are feeling confident or adventurous you can add additional detail to the cushions using free motion or straight line quilting (as I have done in the samples shown here). Guidance has not been included for this optional embellishment, but do have a look at the decorative stitches on your machine as there are likely to be some useful stitches available.
