Woven Cross Quilt Block

The Woven Cross quilt block is a fun way to add a little movement and interest into your patchwork and quilting projects.

I’m sure you’ll have seen a Woven Star quilt block design (I even have it featured in a forthcoming quilt design I am working on) but I thought I’d give it a twist (literally) and turn it ‘on point’ to create the…

Woven Cross Quilt Block

This quilt block will look equally as fabulous as the star of the show (maybe used as a feature block) or as part of a sampler style quilt.

However you use the Woven Cross, it’s a great opportunity to add a little movement to your project and of course a great way of adding some colour!

In order to get the best out of the Woven Cross design you’ll need a background fabric and four different prints. You could go for four contrasting colours or you could choose a selection from just the one colour palette. Either way, just make sure that there is enough contrast between the prints selected to get the best result possible.

You absolutely could make a Woven Cross quilt block using traditional techniques, but by using a template you are creating a stable base for your sewing. This means that you are able to sew accurate points with ease!

More about the Woven Cross FPP Templates...

The Woven Cross quilt block FPP templates are a print at home pdf file. With your download you will receive templates to create 6 different sizes of Woven Cross quilt blocks. No matter the patchwork and quilting project you are working on, surely there will be one to suit your needs!

When working on the smaller block sizes (I would say the 2″ and 4″ finished), it helps to reduce the ‘inner’ seam allowances (when you are piecing the sections) to 1/8″. This makes construction easier and will reduce the amount of bulk created by the excess fabric.

To make printing a little easier and to save you from wasting too much paper, I have laid out each of the sizes on its own page. If you are using specialist paper then you’ll really not want to waste any of it printing out more than you need to!

The template pages are designed to print out on A4 or US Letter paper. All you need to do is select ‘Actual Size’ when printing and you should be good to go, regardless of the paper format that you are using.

The pattern pieces for the Woven Cross have been coded to help you with fabric placement. In order for the design to ‘work’ then you really need to get the fabric placement just right.

The instructions for this block has a colouring page with a useful key and the pattern pieces have been coded to match PLUS there’s guidance for marking up your pattern pieces in my YouTube video demo.
