I am so pleased to share with you my latest pattern release, the Spools of Thread Mini Quilt.
It’s the perfect little project for adorning your sewing space. It’s a great way of using up some of your precious scraps or is an opportunity for you to cut into something special!
Mini quilts are a fabulous way of learning or practicing new skills. This pattern is perfect for anyone new to Foundation Paper Piecing as the shapes are relatively simple and not too small. Each of the spools are made using FPP techniques and the rest of the mini is made using more traditional piecing methods.
The downloadable pdf pattern includes two files that are full of lots of useful features.
Step-by-Step Instructions (7 pages):
- Fabric requirements
- Fabric cutting list and diagrams
- Colouring in diagram
- Printing guidance
- FPP block construction notes
- Construction steps to complete the mini quilt with colour illustrations
FPP Pattern Pieces (3 pages):
- Digitally drawn pattern pieces
- ¼” seam allowances around all pattern pieces
- Pieces for all 9 spools, no duplication required
Here’s a little look at how the pattern pages are laid out…
I really hope that you love the Spools of Thread pattern. Mini quilts are great for decorating your sewing space or are perfect as a gift for a friend. You could even turn this mini into a cushion cover by changing the width of the borders to suit your cushion insert.
I love that this pattern allows you to use up scraps or left overs from other projects. In the sample I have made I have used some Alison Glass prints that were left over from a quilt that I made for a Sewing Quarter demonstration (follow the link for a blog post on how I used one of her fabulous panels).
Learn FPP Techniques
I have filmed a one hour demonstration on the basics of Foundation Paper Piecing for Sewing Quarter. I also cover off the steps you then need to take to make up your own Spools of Thread mini quilt/wall hanging.
Share your makes...
Do make sure that you share pictures of your Spools of Thread mini quilts. I love to see your fabric pulls, your work in progress pictures and of course your finished mini quilts! Use #spoolsofthreadfpp on social media and so we can all find your pictures. I always love to see the different choices we all make using the same pattern! I am starting to populate a gallery of images of the pictures I find of the finished makes. Drop me a line if you would like your picture included.
