NEW: Pineapple Quilt Block FPP Templates
Use these Pineapple quilt block FPP templates to make wonderfully accurate and impactful blocks.
Do you want to make intricate Pineapple quilt blocks but are finding it difficult working with smaller strips of fabric?
Are you ending up with blocks that are a little on the wonky side?
Well, these Foundation Paper Piecing templates might just be what you need in order to get making with confidence. By using the FPP technique you will be creating incredible Pineapple quilt blocks with ease.
Frequently, when trying to make accurate Pineapple quilt blocks, there is a lot of careful measuring OR you get the feeling that you’d be better off buying a specialist ruler (don’t get me wrong though, I love a ruler!). However when you use printable FPP templates you take away a load of the head scratching. If you can sew following a straight line, then these super impressive blocks are within your grasp!
The templates will allow you to sew intricate pineapple blocks, even on a smaller scale! When sewing the fabric to a paper foundation, you are making sure that each of the fabric pieces end up evenly placed and exactly the right size. Therefore you avoid distorted or wonky blocks as the paper acts as a guide and holds everything in place!
Here's more about these FPP Templates...
The Pineapple quilt block Foundation Paper Piecing Templates are a downloadable pdf file that you can print at home. The file includes templates in five different sizes. This gives you lots of different options for any number of patchwork projects.
Whilst the smallest size is just 2″ square, don’t let that put you off, the process of making a block this size is just the same as the largest 6″ version, the lines of stitching are just closer together (you may find an add an eighth ruler really useful!).
Each of the template pages have been laid out in a way that means that they can be printed on A4 or US Letter paper, just remember to print actual size!
Each block size has been laid out on its own page so that you can just what you need, meaning that you are not wasting paper. Plus, to keep things simple (and more cost effective for you), the smaller block sizes have multiple templates to a page.
There is also a 1″ test square on each template page, so make sure you check that before you print out multiple pages or before starting to sew.
The Perfect Paper for Foundation Paper Piecing
When printing out your own FPP templates at home you essentially have two options available to you. You can use standard printer paper or specialist foundation paper. As to which one is right for you, then you need to give both options a try and work out which one is best for you!
I always choose the low end, cheap paper when using standard printer paper. A paper that is 80gsm or lighter is ideal. You really don’t want anything fancy at all.
If you’ve not used specialist Foundation Paper before, then I can highly recommend it. It’s more lightweight than standard copy/printer paper and it is a lot easier to see through. The texture of the paper means that it is really use to remove once you are done sewing, but will also stay in place really well whilst sewing and constructing your blocks!
I can personally recommend the Foundation Paper from patterntrace. The white colour means that it is easy to see through, even without holding it up to a window or using a light box. The other great feature for me is that it comes in A4 size (which avoids me having to change my printer settings).
If you can’t get hold of the patterntrace paper, or you don’t use A4, then I am also more than happy to recommend* Carol Doak’s Foundation Paper. I have a packet in my stationery drawer and it’s great to use. Compared to the patterntrace paper it is unbleached so is more neutral in colour.
If you are using a specialist paper, that is different in size to your normal paper, make sure you check your settings so that it feeds through your machine ok.
