A mug rug design for each of the four fabulous seasons
The pattern comes with four great designs based around the seasons of the year: Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter.
A pretty butterfly and a bold flower are the stars of the show on the Spring mug rug. This is a design that is just perfect for using your bright and bold fabrics.
The Summer mug rug celebrates a trip to the seaside. There’s a row of beach huts, some cute bunting and of course a bucket and spade! For me it’s red white and blue all the way!
Isn’t Autumn (or Fall) such a wonderful time of year? I just love the cool crisp mornings and the wonderful colours of the leaves in the trees. With this pumpkin and leaf design you can use some of those orange and earthy tones in your stash to great effect.
The Winter mug rug features a giant snowflake and a warm looking bobble hat! This design looks great with solids and blenders, but that bobble hat is also screaming out for a fabulous print!
Each of the main blocks on the right hand side of the mug rugs measures 6″ finished, so they are also great for adding to other patchwork and quilting projects that you might have in mind!
How to make a Mug Rug
The Four Seasons Mug Pocket Mug Rugs are primarily made using the Foundation Paper Piecing (FPP) technique. This is a great skill that allows you to create intricate designs that would be really difficult to achieve using standard piecing.
If this skill is new to you then don’t worry, this pattern includes three pages of illustrated step-by-step instructions to help you learn how to do FPP.
The instructions also show you how to add binding to your mug rug. If you’re struggling with this a little, then check out the video I have on YouTube that shows you one technique for adding binding to a smaller project such as this.
Useful tools for making a Four Seasons Mug Rug
Here are some links to a few of the tools that I use when doing FPP and making the Mug Rugs…I really wouldn’t be without them!
If you click on any of the buttons or images below and buy the products, I will receive a few pence commission from Amazon as an affiliate, don’t worry, you will pay the same price regardless.
I use my add a quarter ruler (and my add an eighth ruler) every time I do FPP
I think that Pym glass head quilting pins are the ideal length and thickness for patchwork.
I use this glue every time I add my first piece of fabric (and for so many other things!)
Sewing clips are always useful for so many different projects, not just patchwork!
this is not the exact listing for the clips I bought, but these are very well reviewed
