Keep It Tidy Bowl
Want some beautiful storage for your sewing space?
Wishing that you had a great place for stashing your sewing clips?
Looking for a reason to cut into some of your precious fabrics?
The 'Keep It Tidy Bowl' is just the project you need!
Keep It Tidy Bowls are an ideal addition to your sewing space. As William Morris once said…
‘Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful’
These Keep it Tidy Bowls manage to tick both boxes! They are super useful for storing all sorts of bits and pieces and with the right fabrics they can be ever so beautiful. In addition to that, the joy is that they are an English Paper Piecing project. This means that you can take some time out and do some relaxing hand sewing.
What will you stash in your Keep It Tidy Bowl?

The Keep It Tidy Bowl is great for helping you keep your sewing space neat and tidy. I seem to have a pretty sizeable thread stash but there are certain colours that I reach for more often than not. These are the ones that I keep in one of my Keep It Tidy Bowls.
I use another one for keeping my sewing clips in when I am sewing. The size means that it stores lots of sewing clips and it’s easy to pick them out and throw them back into when I am at the sewing machine.
I also tend to have a Keep It Tidy Bowl on hand when I am doing FPP. It’s a great place to stash all of the fabric trimmings that accumulate when doing FPP!
Choosing fabrics for your Keep It Tidy Bowl
I love projects like this for making use of precious fabrics. Sometimes the really good stuff feels like it’s too good to use, but if you can feature them in a project like this you’ll get to see the prints every time you sew, rather than only when you look through your stash!
I used some great Alison Glass prints for one of my Keep It Tidy Bowls. I had been hanging on to the fabric for such a long time, but I am so happy that I now get to see it every day now that it’s in use!

This Keep It Tidy Bowl below has been made with some of the gorgeous prints from the Liberty London Parks collection. My absolute favourite two prints are the City Sights (cornflower blue with London landmarks on it) and the Kite Flight. I am also really loving the Regents Park print (the one with the rows of flowers). Thanks so much to the team at EQS for sending these fabrics for me to try out!

How to make a Keep It Tidy Bowl
The Keep It Tidy Bowl is made using the English Paper Piecing (EPP) technique. This is a hand sewing technique where the fabrics are wrapped around templates before being sewn together.
The pdf pattern includes step by step illustrated instructions on how to baste the shapes and then how to sew the shapes together to make the bowl.
If you have never tried glue basting before then don’t forget to check out my video EPP Basics : Basting to pick up some great tips.
