Nutcracker FPP Quilt Block
The Nutcracker FPP Quilt Block pdf pattern is perfect for adding to your next Christmas themed patchwork and quilting project. These fellows have risen to seasonal fame thanks to their staring role in Tchaikovsky’s ballet, The Nutcracker, and are now such an iconic symbol of the festive season. Make this block and bring the spirit of their protective nature and charm into your home this Christmas.
This cheeky chappie is made using Foundation Paper Piecing skills. You can then add the eyes and nose with a little applique or a few buttons and then add the mouth and eyebrows with a simple backstitch.
The pdf download includes pattern pieces so you can make the Nutcracker quilt block in either a 6″ or 10″ finished block size.
In this pattern there are five seams that will need matching, but the slightly tricky one where you join the moustache together will be hidden by the nose so there is a little room for error!

Nutcracker : FPP Quilt Block
£3.50The Nutcracker FPP quilt block pdf pattern ideal for your Christmas themed projects!
Combine with some of my other blocks to create a festive project for this season.
The joy of patchwork for me is that no two people will make the same block in the same way. Fabric prints and colour choices allow you to express your creativity and make a block that is unique to you.
With this Nutcracker quilt block think about the shade of fabric that you use for his face, hair and moustache. You can really change his character and age (grey hair anyone?) with a few simple changes! You can also go to town with his jacket colour. I have used green when making the cushion version (see the listing further down this page) as I wanted a contrast to the red sashing, but I chose Liberty Wiltshire Shadow in ruby red for the samples for this standalone block … although I’d also really love to make a purple version too!

Need some FPP supplies?
Here are some links to a few of the tools that I use when doing FPP…I really wouldn’t be without them!
If you click on any of the buttons or images below and buy the products, I will receive a few pence commission from Amazon as an affiliate, don’t worry, you will pay the same price regardless.
I use my add a quarter ruler (and my add an eighth ruler) every time I do FPP!
This glue gets used every time I add my first piece of fabric (and for so many other things!)
Pym glass head quilting pins, for me, are the ideal length and thickness for patchwork!
